for an update!!! Looong overdue, I know.
I've been keeping VERY busy - working a LOT - as anyone who has recently tried to get ahold of me can attest to :)
The weather has started to warm up in Moosonee. And what does that mean for a lovely little town built on the edge of James Bay? It means freak snowstorms, temperatures ranging from -14 to +7 in one day, it means riding to work over ice and slush and riding home through swamped out pot holes the size of my front tire (can't you just picture the stripe of mud displayed across my back?).
It also means that very EXCITING time of year -- Breakup. Yes, that's right folks. Breakup. As the ice begins to melt and the tidal waters wash over it, it can be very dramatic! The ice cracks apart with a thunder so loud you can hear it across the town. And if the ice begins to pile up.. well, let's just say that we're on alert for the potential evacuation of coastal villages/islands. This year should be a doozy, 'cause it was a slammin' winter :D It's all the rage to talk about, anticipate and finally watch the ice begin to breakdown.....
But as I am leaving for sunny Las Vegas in a few days, I just might miss this whole ice-cracking phenomenon. I suppose that the warm stone of Red Rocks will have to sooth me.... hehe. The countdown is ON!
What else is new....?
My Mom is doing really well :D Recovering nicely from her surgery and seems to be adjusting to her new 'lifestyle' well. I'm so proud of her! I know she's actually looking forward to going back to work! She's a bit crazy, but I still love her ;)
Other news: the rumour mill at work has been busy as usual... apparently, there is some hope that I might be in the next ACP class, which will start this summer in Toronto! Fingers crossed everyone..... This could be good :D
Hope that everyone is getting out and enjoying the sunshine :)

You know, a January trip to a sunny destination is a great idea! Don't know why I waited this long to try it. The island of Barbados is a wonderful place. A great escape - especially when you haven't actually seen grass since, like, early November :D It is full bursting full with lush greenery everywhere you look. And the views.... Amazing! I've posted a few more pics. Hey, I'm not trying to rub it in ;)
Hmm..hmm..hmmm... birthday to me.. haaaappy birthday to meeee.... :D
What are you most grateful for in your life right now?

Hey,
For anyone who's reading this thing - I'm heading back to the Hammer very soon! I've just been approved some (much needed) vacation time and will be staying at the lovely 'chez Mom & Ricky's' from Jan 15th until the following Sunday. :D I can't wait to out climbing, visit my friends and hit the shops!! And in case you've not noticed just how close that will be to my birthday... let me remind you (hint hint, nudge nudge).
Tall soy chai latte, how I've missed you.... Oh, and the rest of you folks that live south of the Arctic circle ;)
xo

I've been working quite a lot lately, but I've been lucky enough to get outside too! Over three days - a bunch of us headed out into the back country and cut our own trails for snowshoeing. It was a total blast and many of the pictures make Moosonee look a bit magical, but you'd have to be here to fully appreciate it :) Enjoy!
